Ever look back into the past at who you use to be and in the present feel unworthy of being who God says you now are? Ever felt inadequate, unredeemable, or unlovable? Have you ever, upon looking back at the sin in your past begun to relive it and in the process of doing so relived not only the feelings of guilt and condemnation sin produces but also the pleasure it provided? Because of reexperiencing those pleasures did you find yourself once again indulging in that sin causing you to feel like you weren't saved, never could be, and never would be so instead of turning to God for your help and comfort you continued to find it in that sin? In these moments the devil has you right where he wants you which is dwelling on, reliving, and taking up residence in your past. He wants you reliving your past which was a place of chaos and confusion. He wants you so disoriented that you resort to your old ways. He wants you to think the old you is the only you there really is so he can have you again. But please remember what it says in 2 Cor. 5:17 THEREFORE IF ANYONE IS IN CHRIST HE IS A NEW CREATION OLD THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY BEHOLD ALL THINGS HAVE BECOME NEW. Old things have passed away... Translation: The old you and the sin you lived in doesn't even exist anymore. Regardless of how many times the devil tries to convince you that it does, it doesn't. Your past is only a place of reference, somewhere to find teachable moments and learn from your previously committed wrongs so as not to repeat them going forward. Its not a place to dwell or take up residence. So today, if you've found yourself residing in your past, succumbing to the lies the enemy is trying to convince you of I implore you to call out to your God and allow Him to once again save you from your past and remind you of what a beautiful present and future you have in Him. You are not your past or the things you've done nor are you defined by them. You're defined by your God. Never be convinced of anything else!
