Reflection #8:Thanks!

Writer's picture: Christopher McLaurinChristopher McLaurin

When I woke up this morning breakfast was on the table in my cell. It came in a brown bag and contained a small styrofoam cup of cereal, a carton of milk, a small carton of juice, and peanut butter and jelly without any bread though the lack bread was probably just a mistake made by the person making the bag. But I will admit that the moment I realized there was no bread I did get a bit frustrated. My frustration wasn't only because of the bread though, the bread was just another thing on top of other things but in the midst of being frustrated The Holy Spirit showed me how blessed I really was. First off I woke up this morning. Didn't do that on my own. Let me say that again because sometimes I think we take this for granted. I WOKE UP THIS MORNING! I emerged from my sleep and there are many others who didn't. I'm healthy, mentally and physically, there are so many who aren't. And not just from this pandemic we're in the middle of but from a myriad of other ailments and diseases. I had food on my table, so many others didn't. This morning I was shown my blessings and convicted about how I have a tendency to take them for granted. How I have a tendency to overlook the things God does for me daily. I was shown that I sometimes act like a spoiled brat with a major case of entitlement instead of a thankful servant of The Most High God who is appreciative for everything his Master does for him. I was convicted and that conviction brought about godly change which it always does. So, right now if there is anyone who realizes that they too may, at times, act like an entitled child, I want to encourage you to take a moment, perhaps several moments, heck maybe a bunch of moments, or how about every moment possible for the rest of our lives, to thank God for what He does for us and how diligent He is on our behalf. Thankfulness and expressing that to God is my goal, not only for today, but everyday. My God is awesome! How dare I take his awesomeness for granted? Never again!
