Reflection #12:Never Forget You Came From Somewhere Too!

Writer's picture: Christopher McLaurinChristopher McLaurin

I want to offer this word of encouragement to those of us who have been blessed to have experienced the awesomeness of our God's delivering power. Be careful when you see others who, as of yet, have either not been delivered, or aren't spiritually mature enough to recognize the deliverance being offered to them, that you don't talk down to them or make them feel like they're inadequate or less than. Its a sad but true fact that there are Christians who, as soon as they're delivered from something get puffed up and take on a "holier than thou" attitude and begin to look down on others who're still in the midst of their battle with sin. I have been on both sides of this. It made me feel like crap when someone did it to me. I was made to feel like I wasn't trying hard enough. Not praying hard enough, not praising or worshipping enough, not reading my word enough. I was made to feel like I wasn't serious enough, even though, in that moment and instance I was as serious as I could be. As serious as I knew how to be. And there we're moments, because of this, where I almost walked was from Christianity. Thankfully I didn't. So because I remember what I felt like when someone did it to me, I once again felt like crap when it was brought to my attention that I was doing it to someone. I had to humbly apologize to that person and ask them for fogiveness and immediately ask God to remove, from me, whatever drove me to act like that and He did. So today if you have done this or currently are doing it to someone you have to stop and apologize to them, you have to ask them for forgiveness and you have to repent. Or I assure you that your actions will be the reason a young christian either considers or actually does leave the faith. Today I urge us all to never forget that we came from somewhere too and more than likely its the same place the person we looked down on came from. Let's never forget that we too had to go through some stuff to get where we're at and so do others.
