No Worries!

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (Matt 6:25, NKJV)

The bills need to be paid; the rent is due; the car is in the shop; the kids need new clothes and shoes; I need new clothes and shoes; I might be about to get laid off, etc. etc. etc.  These are worries that people have every day and some of these worries consume them, but I'm here to tell you that it's not your job to worry about these things.  In fact, it's actually sin to worry about them.  Therefore, I say to you, do not worryThe words do not would suggest that a command has been given and that to transgress that command would be sin.

But I do understand how easy it is for a person to slip into worry or by overtaken by worry.  Having been raised by a single mother who at times struggled to make ends meet, I have witnessed firsthand how easy it is for a Christian, who loves God and has no intend to transgress his commands, fall into worry.  And I'm here to today to encourage anyone who is currently worrying about something that there is no need for your worry because God's got you even more than you can imagine.  Just pay attention to the first line of this scripture.

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life... Jesus told us not to worry about our lives.  Do you know why?  Because they are no longer ours, they are his and we are his responsibility.  The moment he became Lord and Savior to us, he became responsible for us and there is no one more responsible, faithful, or trustworthy than him.  Now pay attention to the next line.

...what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on... Don't worry about what you're going to eat or drink.  Now just go with me for a moment.  Christ  told us not to worry about two of the three necessities needed for our survival.  It is an undeniable truth that if we don't eat or drink for long enough we are going to die.  Two of the three necessities essential for our daily livings were things he told us not to worry about. And really we can add the third thing to that list which is air because he created our bodies to breathe on our own.

Please understand how profound what Jesus said in these two lines is.  We have been commanded not to worry about the things we absolutely need for survival.  Why? Because they were things he intended to provide; and God.  He's not partial or incomplete in any way, so it only makes sense that not only would he provide these things but everything we need.  Need, not want.  If you believe this then answer this question, why worry at all?  I know life can sometimes squeeze on you and the pressures of the things that the world has told us should be our first and foremost concerns sometimes threaten to overtake us.  But, when they do, remember that you don't have to.  Recall this scripture.  Remember Jesus told us no to worry about essential necessities and also remember why he told us not to worry.

For your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. (Matt 6:32, NKJV) God knows what we need and he is always providing according to his grace which is sufficient for us at all times.  Our lives are not ours to worry about.  They are God's and he is going to do all the things his word has promised us.  As long as we do what his word has told is which is what?  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matt 6:33, NKJV)

I guarantee you if we take the time we spend worrying and spend that time seeking our God and drawing nigh to him, we won't ever go back to worrying because the full care and provision he provides us with will be evident.  So today don't worry about the things you normally would.  Today, when your worries arise, look them in the face and tell them that they will no longer trouble you because your God has made you a promise to provide all your needs.  Tell your worries that your God has got you and then ignore them because when God has us, what could we possibly have to worry about?

Prayer for today:  Creator God, when we worry we forget that you have promised to provide for us always.  Help us to give our worries to you ad trust in you every day. Amen,
