It's Just a Building

Writer's picture: Christopher McLaurinChristopher McLaurin

So let me start this by saying that I miss going to church and praising and worshipping with my brothers in Christ. I miss being in the presence of and being able to fellowship with other believers. I miss the feeling of corporate praise. I miss all the things that take place inside the buildings we call the church just like everyone else does but I also understand that these buildings are just that. They're buildings. Places we congregate in to praise and worship but they're not the reason or purpose for it. Just because I can't be in the building doesn't mean that my praise and worship should cease, it doesn't mean I should stop having church. But for some people that's exactly what it has meant and if you're one of those people then I'd like to encourage you today to remember that you can have church anywhere. Remember that you are the church. The church is a people. We are the church, you, me, and every other believer on the face of the earth and church is wherever we are. Our Lord is not contained to or contingent upon a building nor are the things He bestows upon us such as His blessings, His grace, His mercy, and His favor. Neither should our praise, worship, fellowship, or service for Him be dictated by our presence or lack thereof in any particular or specific building. Please let us not be so concerned with the building that we forget about the body. Just like you miss being in church there are others who miss it too and some of those people aren't as fortunate as you are, some aren't as strong as you are. In fact some are scared and lonely and without a service to go to they feel like they have nowhere to turn. So, today, we turn to them. Today reach out to someone in whatever way possible and have church with them. Pray with them, praise with them, and let them know that just because they can't go to the building doesn't mean the building can't be brought to them. This is the day that the Lord has made, let's rejoice and be glad therein. God Bless.
