And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? (Mark 4:37-40)
The word windstorm in this passage of scripture is a fierce tempest with driving winds and rain; it's a whirlwind; it's hurricane. One so severe that the disciples thought this was going to be the storm that took their lives and you know what, their worry and fear could almost be understood. I mean, they were on the sea, in the middle of a hurricane, with the waves beating against their boat which was filling with water. Yeah, their fears and worries could almost be understood if not for the fact that they had their Lord and Savior sleeping in the boat. How many of us can relate to this? And not in the natural sense like the disciples but in the spiritual sense?
