Don't Keep His Greatness to Yourself!

Today we have the first of Chris's posts since the lockdown.

When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennersaret. And when then of that place recognized him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to him all who were sick, and begged him that they might only touch the hem of his garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. (Matt.14:34-36)

The men of Gennesaret saw an opportunity and capitalized on it. Jesus had come into their land. The man who had raised the dead, healed the sick, and given sight to the blind. The man who had stopped a woman's 12 year flown of blood just by her touching the hem of his garment has come into their town and they knew that the opportunity for them to have their own sick cured and healed was upon them. But the men of Genneserat weren't only thinking of themselves or their own families. No, they thought about everyone and sent out into all that surrounding region so that everyone who needed Jesus might have the opportunity to benefit from him.

The men who recognized Jesus as the one who, physically and naturally, was able to heal people of their ailments made sure that the people who needed to come into contact with Christ did and those who did were made perfectly well. The men of Genneserat had a natural understanding of Christ's greatness and spread the word of that greatness instead of keeping it to themselves. Understanding the magnitude and importance of what these men did, I pose this question to us: Can we say we are doing the same thing today? Can we say we are bringing people to Christ to be healed? AndI don't mean naturally, for physical ailments. I'm talking spiritually for ailments that can only be fixed by the God who created us, and his Son who saved us.

All of us who have recognized Christ spiritually and been saved and rescued by his atoning work on the cross, those of us who given him Lordship over our lives and experienced how much better it is to be under his guidance than our own; every one of us who has witnessed the strength and power of the Holy Spirit and his ability to enable us to refrain from sin, we all live in a land where many people around us are spiritually weak, broken, sick, and destitute, and are in desperate need of healing. Most of us are aware of this but how many of us are doing whatever we can to get these individuals to Christ so they can be healed?

How many of us are making it known to the unbelievers among us that the cure to their depressions, addictions, sadness, anger, suicidal thoughts, sexual immorality, and whatever else they might be plagued with exists in Christ? And not making it known to them but bringing them to Christ so that they may have the opportunity to be healed? Or are we just keeping the greatness of God to ourselves, or perhaps only sharing it with other Christians? If this is something we're doing, it needs to stop and we need to begin to show some real and serious concern for the people of our Lord.

The greatness of Jesus is not something to be kept to ourselves. It's not something to be hoarded selfishly. It is something to be shared with everyone who needs it which is everyone in the world. Today, if you realize you haven't been sharing the greatness of our Lord and Savior with the people who don't know him. then take time to share him with someone who needs him. Think about this: what if no one had taken the time to share Christ with you? Where might you be right now if no one ever told you that the remedy to all your problems, hurts, fears, and life issues (natural and spiritual) existed in Christ?

We all know people who have not recognized Christ as we have, but who need too; if you haven't done as the men of Genneserat did, then you are doing those people a great disservice. Let's change that today. Today let's take a page from the book of the men of Genneserat and send out into all the surrounding regions, bringing to our Lord all that are spiritually sick and in need of healing so that they can touch the spiritual hem of Jesus and be made perfectly well. Today, if you have recognized Christ and experienced his greatness in your life, then please, don't keep it to yourself. Spread the word to those who need it the most.
