This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. (1 Samuel 17:33. NKJV)
Allow me to ask everyone a few questions:
Do you know who your God is?
Do you know he created the heavens, the earth and everything in them?
Do you know he's omniscient, meaning he knows all things?
Do you know he's omnipresent, meaning he's everywhere at all times?
Do you know he's omnipotent, meaning he's all powerful?
Do you know that every single thing in the universe is under his control and subject to his authority and commands? Even your giants.
If you can answer yes to all these questions, then the next one should be a no-brainer: Is anything too hard for the Lord? (Genesis 18:14)
If your answer to that is an emphatic NO, then we are now ready to move on to the third and final step in the process of defeating our giants. The third step is to have faith in God and his abilities. We need to have faith in his word which tells us that he is "...our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1) The faith we have to have in the final step of this process is the faith David had as approached Goliath in battle, a faith which not only tells you that God will defeat your giant before he does it, but also convinces you of it so thoroughly that you announce his defeat to your giant's face, that let God effectuate it.
"This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand and I will strike you and take your head from you."
These were the words that David spoke and he spoke them boldly. It's time for us to be bold; it's time to start this process in our lives; it's time we stop making provision or leaving any room in our lives for doubt or hesitation when it comes to addressing our giants. So, this day, let us pledge to be bold and filled with faith like David was, standing in defiant opposition to our giants, trusting in god and the promises of his word, strengthened and empowered by the Holy Spirit, and expecting victory. When we do that, we will watch our giants begin to fall in defeat.
Prayer for the day: Faithful God, we give you thanks for the example of David defeating Goliath. Strengthen our trust in your power as we approach the giants that threaten our lives and give us the victory over them. In the name of our Lord and savior we pray. Amen.
