Ps. 119:65-72
65You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word. 66Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments. 67Before I was humbled I went astray, but now I keep your word. 68You are good and do good; teach me your statutes. 69The arrogant smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts. 70Their hearts are fat and gross, but I delight in your law. 71It is good for me that I was humbled, so that I might learn your statutes. 72The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces..
There are many of us who are saved because we came to prison. It was here where we met the Lord. There are also some, like me, who knew Jesus before prison but went astray. I have often felt like I am the worst of all sinners and sometimes questioned if I was saved in the first place. Maybe some of you have felt the same way. Our Psalmist today was apparently in the same boat as we were. He says he went astray before he was afflicted. He now realizes the error of his way but he does not take the tone of self hate like I did. He says it was actually good for him to be afflicted because now he keeps God's Word. Isn't it good to know that we are not the only ones? Let's sum this up with a thought from Hebrews (12:5b-6). "My son do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by Him. For the Lord disciplines the one He loves and chastises every son whom he receives."
