Though there are many things to be thankful for each and every day today I am especially thankful that I have something to look forward to.
IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE ARE MANY MANSIONS, IF IT WERE NOT SO, I WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU. I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU. AND IF I GO AND PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU, I WILL COME AGAIN AND RECEIVE YOU TO MYSELF; THAT WHERE I AM, THERE YOU MAY BE ALSO. (JOHN 14:2,4)
I find so much comfort and hope in this scripture. There is so much contained therein for me to look forward to. Jesus Himself is going to prepare a place for me and when He does He's going to come back for me and receive me to Himself. And of course I've always known this to be true but I have so much of a better appreciation of it now. See for the past week I have been sitting by the bedside of a man dying of cancer. This man is in extreme amounts of pain even with the narcotics he's given. He can barely move, he isn't capable of eating or drinking and most of the time he is delirious. But the two last things he said to me were 1)I'm so glad I believe in Jesus and 2)I'm at peace because I know where I'm going. This man, this dying, suffering man is at peace in his condition because he knows where he's going. He has something to look forward to. Someone is waiting for him in a place that has been prepared for him. The peace of this man reminded me of what awaits me one day when the Lord finally calls me home and it made me given thanks and be thankful and I am. I am so thankful that I know where I'm going and that the place has already been prepared for me. I'm thankful that when I get there there'll be no more pain or suffering, no more hurt just joy as I bask in the glory of my Lord and Savior. Yes there are many things for me to be thankful for and I'm thankful for everyone of them but today the place that has been prepared for me and the hope and comfort this promise has provided for not only me but also for the man whose bed I sit by is at the top of the list.
