An Example In Living From A Dying Man!

Writer's picture: Christopher McLaurinChristopher McLaurin

On Tuesday August 4th at 1:30 in the morning Mr. Steven Davis the man whose bed I'd been sitting by finally succumbed to his battle with cancer and went home to be with the Lord and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Also, today, with this reflection I celebrate Mr. Davis for the example he set as he prepared to depart from this earth. Facing death he was a man of "Mustard Seed Faith", he was a man of joy, a man who was content with what his Lord had planned for his life. He was a man with no complaints. A man who, as he withered away, maintained his reverence for the God he served. He was a man who in his physically weakest moments remained strong in the Lord. Mr. Steven Davis was a man who died knowing that he was saved and was going to heaven to be with his God and Heavenly Father and I hope that when my time comes I will be just like him. But, even more than that, the way Mr. Davis died is the way I want to live. I want, every day for the rest of my life, to be a man of "Mustard Seed Faith" which I will explain in a future reflection. I want all of my days to be filled with joy, I want to continue to live content and strong and I know all of these things are possible because of the example set and the life lived by Mr. Davis until he breathed his last. Right now, though I mourn the loss of a friend I also celebrate the life that friend lived and the way he lived it. I take the example he set forth and I let it remind me daily of just how mighty, how powerful, how faithful, and how able our God is. In some ways I am put to shame seeing how this man lived his life in moments of extreme and excruciating pain and I thank God that I was able to witness his final weeks and days so that I could feel that shame and that shame could turn into conviction which ultimately led to change in my life. Thank you Lord for the strength you gave Mr. Davis and the example he was able to set because of that strength.
