P.O.W'S. #1(Prisoners of Defeat)

Writer's picture: Christopher McLaurinChristopher McLaurin

I never truly understood the magnitude of the impact negative comments have on a person until I began to counsel and mentor men. I've met men with extremely low self-esteem, so low that they believed they were nothing. Men who were convinced they'd never succeed at anything so they never tried to amount to anything or apply themselves to be successful. Men who'd come to accept failure as a way of life. And do you know what all these men had in common? They'd all been severely belittled. "You'll never be anything!" "You'll never make it anywhere in life!" "You're so stupid!" "You're a loser!" And so on and so on until the person begins believing what's been said to them and not only believing but also operating in that belief. A prisoner of defeat. If all a person has ever had spoke to them are words of defeat it becomes nearly impossible for them to believe they can win and this becomes their reality, it becomes their prison and they become its prisoner. If this is you I want you to first know how sorry I am you had to go through that. Secondly I want you to know you're so much more than what people have told you and I know this because I know the God who created you. And finally I want you to know how your God sees you. He doesn't see a loser He sees a victor. He sees someone with potential, a person with promise and ability. He sees the person He created, a person He created in His own Image and Likeness, someone He loves and will do anything for. Today, for those of you who find yourselves being prisoners of defeat I want you to forget all of the negativity people have spewed at you and only concern yourself with what God thinks of you. If you don't know what He thinks of you open your bible and allow Him to tell you through the scriptures. Let God tell you your worth and then become a prisoner of those words and of Him who spoke them. Its okay to be a prisoner of words as long as they're His Words and not anyone else's. God Bless
